The Anara add-in brings your research workspace into Microsoft Word. Chat with an AI that can read your open document and edit it in place, search your Anara library and academic literature, and insert citations in styles like APA, MLA, Chicago, Harvard, IEEE, and Vancouver, all without leaving your document.
Install from AppSource
Open the Anara for Word listing on Microsoft AppSource.
Click Get it now and sign in with your Microsoft account if asked.
Follow the prompts to add Anara to Word.
The next time you open a document, look for the Anara button on the Home tab.
Install from inside Word on Windows or Mac
Open a document in Word.
On the Home tab, click Add-ins, then click More Add-ins. You can also get there through File > Get Add-ins.
In the Office Add-ins window, open the Store tab and search for Anara.
Click Add next to Anara for Word.
The steps are the same on Windows and Mac. If you don't see Add-ins on the Home tab, your version of Word may keep the store on the Insert tab instead: click Insert > Get Add-ins.
Install in Word on the web
The add-in works in your browser too, and the path is the same as on desktop:
Open a document in Word on the web.
On the Home tab, click Add-ins, then click More Add-ins.
Search for Anara in the store and click Add.
Once installed, Anara works the same in the browser as it does on desktop.
First steps after installing
Click the Anara button on the Home tab to open the Anara pane.
Sign in with your Anara account. You can use Google, Microsoft, or your email address. If you don't have an account yet, you can create one when you sign in; see Get started with Anara.
Use the Agent tab to research, draft, and edit, or the Cite tab to find and insert references.
Note: The add-in is free to install, and a free Anara account is enough to get started. Paid plans unlock higher limits.
If you don't see the Anara button
Installed add-ins live under Home > Add-ins. Click Add-ins and select Anara from the list to open it.
If you use a work or school Microsoft account and Anara doesn't appear in the store, or you see a message that your organization has disabled access to the store, your organization controls which add-ins can be installed. Ask your Microsoft 365 admin to allow Anara for Word.
