Uploading files to Anara

How to upload files using drag-and-drop or the file picker, and what happens after upload.

Updated today

Drop a paper into Anara and within seconds it's searchable, summarizable, and ready to chat with. Whether you're uploading one PDF or a hundred, Anara handles the processing automatically so you can focus on the research.

How to upload files

There are two ways to upload:

  • Drag and drop: Drag one or more files from your computer directly onto the library page.

  • File picker: Click the Add button in the library toolbar, then select Upload files. Choose one or more files from your device.

You can upload multiple files at once. Each file appears in your library immediately and begins processing in the background.

What happens after you upload

As soon as a file lands in your library, Anara processes it automatically:

  • Text extraction: The full text is extracted so the AI can read and answer questions about the document.

  • Metadata extraction: For academic papers, Anara pulls authors, journal, DOI, publication date, volume, issue, pages, and citation count where available.

  • AI summary: A short summary is generated, visible in the library table and in the Details tab when you open the file.

  • Indexing: The document is indexed for search so you can find it by title, author, or content.

The Full text column in your library shows the extraction status. Available means the full text was extracted. Abstract only means only the abstract was retrieved. Content unavailable means the the full text could not be retrieved, usually due to a paywall.

Tip: Processing usually takes under a minute. Very large documents like books or lengthy reports may take a few minutes longer.
