Connecting your research tools to Anara

Overview of all connectors in Anara, including Zotero, Mendeley, Google Drive, Notion, and more. Learn how to connect your tools and use them in AI chat.

Your research already lives somewhere: Zotero collections, Google Drive folders, Notion pages, scientific databases, and the apps your team uses every day. Connectors let Anara search those sources and, when supported, take approved actions in them.

Some connectors import content into your Anara library. App connectors work with live data in the connected service. You can use both kinds alongside files already in Anara.

Where to find connectors

Go to Settings > Connectors. Each connector shows whether it is connected or disconnected, with a button to connect or manage it.

Connect an app

  1. Find the app under Available and click Connect.

  2. If the provider asks, sign in and authorize Anara.

  3. Return to Anara. The app appears under Connected.

Connect your own MCP server

On a Pro plan or higher, you can connect another service that provides a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server.

  1. Under MCP servers, click Add server.

  2. Paste the server URL. Anara detects whether it uses OAuth or another authentication method.

  3. Click Connect and complete sign-in if prompted.

Tip: Open More options only when the provider gives you a bearer token, custom headers, a different transport, or a specific server name.

Use connectors in chat

Once a connector is active, type @ in the chat input and select it under Sources. You can combine connected sources with Library and Web in the same request.

Import connectors search the content synced into Anara. App connectors query the connected service live, so you do not need to resync them before asking a question.

Tip: You can also ask naturally, such as “Find the latest meeting notes in Granola” or “Check this experiment in PostHog.” Anara can discover the relevant connected app.

When Anara wants to change something

Read-only actions can run directly. If an app action may change data, Anara pauses and shows exactly what it wants to do. Review the action and select Allow once to continue, or deny it to leave the external service unchanged.

If a connector is not working

  • Not appearing as a source? Confirm it appears under Connected in Settings > Connectors, then refresh the page.

  • Asked to reconnect? The provider's authorization may have expired or may need additional permissions. Reconnect from the card in chat or from Settings, then send your request again.

  • Imported content feels outdated? Click Resync on connectors that import content. App connectors query live data and do not have a resync step.

  • Your own MCP server connects but exposes no tools? Check that the URL is the MCP endpoint supplied by the provider, then disconnect and add it again.

  • Still stuck? Use the Support menu in the bottom left sidebar to contact us.
