On the Free and Plus plans, daily AI word counts and upload counts are gone. Every plan now includes an amount of AI usage, shown as one meter with a precise reset time. If you're looking for the old "AI words" counter, this article explains what changed and what it means for your plan.
What changed
One meter instead of several counters. On Free and Plus, AI words per day and uploads per day are gone. All of your AI activity now draws from a single included usage amount, shown as a percentage in the Usage menu in the left sidebar.
Weekly limits on paid plans. Paid plans refresh usage on a rolling weekly basis, so one heavy day doesn't stop your week. The Free plan refreshes daily.
Precise reset times. The usage menu shows exactly when more usage frees up, in your timezone.
Credits for heavy weeks. Paid plans can now add credits to keep going past their included usage, something that wasn't possible before.
Every model on Pro and above. The full model picker, including GPT 5.6 Sol, Opus 5, and Fable 5, is now available on Pro, not just Max.
Max now comes in two sizes. See Max 5x and Max 20x.
What didn't change
Plan prices are unchanged, and nobody was moved to a different plan.
If you subscribed to the original Max plan, you keep your price and get the larger Max 20x usage limit.
Your files, notes, chats, and library are completely unaffected.
Reading, annotating, organizing, and revisiting past AI answers never count against usage.
Why the change
Word counts were never a fair measure of AI work. A short answer that reads fifty files costs far more than a long answer from one file, and word limits couldn't tell the difference. Measuring actual usage means the heaviest use is what reaches the limit, not everyday work.
What it means for your plan
Free: a daily usage limit covering all AI activity, including imports. When you reach it, more usage frees up the next day.
Plus: a weekly usage limit, and Auto mode remains the model for chats.
Pro: a weekly usage limit sized so that the large majority of people rarely see it. Heavy weeks can be covered with credits, and every model is now available, including GPT 5.6 Sol, Opus 5, and Fable 5.
Max: now two sizes, 5x and 20x Pro usage. Existing Max subscribers keep their price with the 20x limit.
Note: Usage limits are per person, so your reset time and remaining usage are yours alone. Purchased credits are shared across your workspace.
