AI responses seem wrong or incomplete

Why Anara's AI occasionally makes mistakes, and what to do when responses seem incorrect, incomplete, or off-topic.

Updated today

Anara is designed to ground every answer in your documents β€” not in the AI's general knowledge. When a response seems off or incomplete, there's usually a specific reason. Here's how to diagnose and fix it.

Common reasons for imperfect responses

  • The source document doesn't have full text. If a file shows "Abstract only" or "Content unavailable" in the Full text column of your library, the AI can only work with what was extracted. See Files aren't processing correctly.

  • The question was too broad. Vague questions produce vague answers. "Tell me about this paper" gives the AI little to work with compared to "What sample size did this study use and what were its primary endpoints?"

How to get better responses

Be more specific

Include the detail you're looking for in your question. Instead of "Summarize this study," try "Summarize the methods and key findings, including sample size, outcome measures, and statistical significance."

Check full text availability

Look at the Full text column in your library table. If a file shows "Abstract only" or "Content unavailable," the AI doesn't have access to the full content. Try re-uploading the PDF directly if you have it.

Scope the AI with @mentions

Type @ in the chat input and select a specific file or source. This focuses the AI's search on exactly what you're asking about and reduces noise from unrelated documents. See Using @mentions to control the AI.

Try a different model

Click the model selector next to the chat input. Different models handle different kinds of questions differently. If one model's response seems off, try another. Higher-tier plans unlock higher intelligence and less error-prone models.

Use source filters

Below the chat input, use the toggles to disable library search or web search. If web results are diluting responses grounded in your own documents, turn off web search.

Tip: Always verify citations. Click any inline citation to jump to the exact passage in the source document. If the citation doesn't support the claim, use the thumbs-down button to flag the response β€” it helps improve the AI.
