Importing from Mendeley

How to connect your Mendeley account to Anara and transfer your PDF library.

Updated today

If you've built your reference library in Mendeley, Anara can import it directly. Connect once and your Mendeley documents transfer into Anara with their metadata intact β€” authors, titles, publication dates, and DOIs carried over automatically.

Tip: Plan required: Mendeley integration requires a Plus plan or higher. See plans.

How to connect Mendeley

  1. Find Mendeley and click Connect.

  2. You'll be redirected to Mendeley's website. Sign in and grant access.

  3. After authorizing, you'll return to Anara with Mendeley showing as connected.

What gets transferred

Anara imports PDFs and other supported file types from your Mendeley library. Metadata like authors, titles, publication dates, and DOIs carries over automatically.

Using Mendeley in chat

After connecting, type @ in the chat input and select Mendeley from the Sources list. Anara searches your Mendeley-imported documents when generating its response.

Combine @Mendeley with @Library to search across everything in Anara at once.

Tip: After importing, use filters in your library to confirm what came through.

Disconnecting Mendeley

To disconnect, go to Settings > Connectors and click Disconnect. Files already imported into Anara will remain in your library.

If Mendeley isn't importing

  • Connection shows as disconnected? Reconnect from Settings > Connectors. OAuth tokens for Mendeley can expire.

  • Files imported but show "Content unavailable"? Some Mendeley libraries store references without the attached PDF. Anara imports the metadata but needs the actual PDF to extract full text. See Files aren't processing correctly.

  • Only some papers came through? Anara imports supported file types only. Some older reference formats may be skipped.
