Anara's preferences let you tailor the experience to how you work β from the app language and theme to how the AI responds and which citation format it uses. Find everything at Settings > Preferences.
General
Language: Sets both the app interface language and the language Anara uses in responses. Useful if you work in a language other than English.
Theme: Choose System (follows your OS setting), Light, or Dark.
Enable auto-rename: When on, Anara uses web search to find and apply better titles to imported files automatically.
Include notes in AI responses: When enabled, Anara can draw on your notes when answering in chat, not just your uploaded documents.
Chat
AI model: Sets your default model for new conversations. You can still change the model mid-conversation from the chat input. See Choosing and changing AI models.
Response length: Controls how long AI responses are by default. Pick a length from the dropdown (e.g., 250 words). You can override this in any chat by asking directly: "Give me a brief summary" or "Write a detailed analysis."
Citation format: Sets the default citation style for chat responses. Anara supports 12 formats: Numbered, APA 7th edition, MLA 9th edition, Harvard, Chicago, IEEE, CSE, ACS, Vancouver, ASA, AMA, and OSCOLA.
Editor
AI model: Sets the default model used when chatting in the note editor sidebar. Can be set independently from your chat model.
Citation format: Sets the citation style used when inserting references in notes. Configured separately from chat citations.
Spellcheck: Toggle spellchecking on or off in the note editor.
Tip: Citation format can be set separately for Chat and Editor. If you write notes in APA but want numbered citations in chat, configure each independently.
